Diablo
Description
The story of Diablo is based on the premise of a war between Heaven and Hell. The town of Tristram is under attack by hordes of demons, pouring forth from beneath the ruined Tristram Cathedral, and the player must save the town. As the player delves into the network of Dungeons, and later on the Catacombs beneath, which in turn are followed furthermore by the Caves deep down, he or she discovers more about the Demon Diablo, who is residing in the final level of Hell, through large tomes which are found throughout the levels. Eventually, the player reaches the lair of Diablo himself and must kill him.
Diablo, who is an incredibly powerful demon, is the Lord of Terror and one of the Three Prime Evils of Hell, who had been imprisoned within a Soulstone and buried in the caverns deep beneath the town of Tristram centuries ago by an ancient people known as the Horadrim.

Diablo 1 is still very much fun to play, also in multiplayer mode, 20 years after it was released. From today's perspective, it's basically simplified World of Warcraft, because Blizzard honed their concept of character and gear progression from Diablo 1 to Diablo 2 to World of Warcraft.

A feast of atmospheric entertainment. While it might tire after a while, you'll likely get your money's worth long before that point, and moreso if you venture into the chaos that is Battle.net, where life takes on a whole new meaning and the hours slip mysteriously away. Diablo is a landmark game.
